Pledge of Allegiance

PARENTAL NOTICE AND INFORMATION

By state law, the Pledge of Allegiance shall be recited once at the beginning of each school day in each public classroom in Utah.

Students have the right not to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Participation is voluntary, not compulsory.

Not only is it acceptable for someone to choose not to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance for religious or other reasons, but students and teachers should show respect for an individual who chooses not to participate. Teachers shall strive to maintain an atmosphere among students in the classroom that is consistent with this principle.

A student shall be excused from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance upon written request from their parent/guardian.
