Weekly District Update - Feb. 4, 2022

Uintah Middle School has collected about 2,000 pairs of donated shoes as of this morning, putting them a quarter of the way to their goal of collecting 8,000 pairs by next Friday. The shoe drive is a global act of kindness organized by Think Kindness, a nonprofit whose founder held an assembly at UMS last month. The donated shoes will go to Tanzania, where they will be given to children and teens in need.

Fridays mean engaging activities at Maeser

This year's Friday schedule has given teachers at Maeser Elementary an opportunity to provide interventions and extensions for the content taught during the week. They also have many highly engaging activities each Friday, like dissecting eyeballs, working with a team to build volcanos, making pinch pots, using playdough to create numbers, participating in a farmer’s market, and many other educational experiences.

Discovery artists inspired by sea life

To create their works of art, Discovery Elementary students used fluorescent paint and neon oil pastels so that we could have a great reaction to the blacklight. I chose these mediums because the ocean is full of bright colorful creatures and plant life, as well as a lot of bioluminescence.
