Ashley Valley Education Center (AVEC) is off to a great start this year. The faculty and staff recognize each student who enters the school as an individual with a name, a family, unique abilities, personal desires, and specific needs.

AVEC provides a haven and a non-threatening atmosphere for nontraditional students, and still the school’s rules and policies emphasize student responsibility. By making students accountable for their work and actions they ultimately take charge of their own learning. AVEC, as an alternative to regular school, is not an easy way out, nor is it diluted learning. Instead, it provides other options to educate students.

There are many programs housed at the school. AVEC’s high school program currently has 246 full-time students and 48 part-time students in grades 9 through 12. Many of these students are attending classes from home. Two nights a week we also offer night school for all Uintah School District students in grades 9-12.

Uintah Online (UON) is dedicated to connecting home, school, and the future through our online curriculum for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. Currently UON has 88 full-time and six part-time students enrolled.

The Adult Education program provides the opportunity for students ages 16 and older to earn a high school credential through a credit recovery program or by taking the GED. These students are then encouraged to further their education at UBTech or Utah State University. We provide an Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) program as well, with day and evening classes. We also provide educational opportunities for students at the Split Mountain Youth Center and the Uintah County Jail.

To foster greater responsibility, self-esteem, and learning, Ashley Valley Education Center works toward the following objectives:

  • Creating an environment where success is possible and probable for all students.
  • Creating a safe, secure, and non-threatening environment for learning, especially for those students who are not at grade level.
  • Raising student skills to the appropriate grade level or above in each subject.
  • Teaching individuals instead of stereotyping students.
  • Knowing students well, building rapport with them, and respecting them as individuals.
  • Working as a unified staff for the progress and development of individual students.
  • Working to meet individual needs and tailoring the curriculum to the students.
  • Providing a variety of learning methods and applicable, practical curriculum.
  • Having the students develop ideas, skills, and concepts as a foundation for future learning.
  • Promoting learning for continual growth, academically, emotionally, physically, and socially.
  • Working with the community to be a good neighbor and to provide for the needs of its youth.
  • Instilling in students a curiosity for life, a love of learning, and the desire to continue their education, whether formally or informally, throughout their lives.

At AVEC we believe in each other. Because of this culture of trust and belief, miracles do happen. Excellence is not for a few; it is in all of us. We say to all our students, “Go Warriors!”
