Weekly District Update - Feb. 4, 2022
The Uintah School Board will hold its regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the district office in Naples. The work session begins at 4 p.m. The business meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The agendas for both meetings can be found in
BoardDocs under the School Board tab on this website.
The meetings will be broadcast live on the

Gov. Spencer Cox recently issued an executive order granting state employees 30 hours of paid time off to substitute in schools for the remainder of the school year. If a state employee would like to substitute in the Uintah School District they must:
◾️ Attend the Basic Substitute Training Course offered by UBTECH. Training dates for the remainder of the school year are Feb. 9, Feb. 18, and March 23. Register for the training

◾️ Have a current fingerprint background check on file with Uintah School District.
◾️ Complete the district Code of Conduct training, which will be assigned through Vector Training after the above requirements have been met.

Uintah Middle School has collected about 2,000 pairs of donated shoes as of this morning, putting them a quarter of the way to their goal of collecting 8,000 pairs by next Friday.
The shoe drive is a global act of kindness organized by Think Kindness, a nonprofit whose founder held an assembly at UMS last month. The donated shoes will go to Tanzania, where they will be given to children and teens in need.
“Everyone in the Basin is invited to be a part of this massive act of kindness,” UMS 8th Grade Student Council Advisor Jessica Blunt said. “Get your clubs, councils and social circles together. If we collected one pair of shoes from half the homes in Vernal, we would exceed the goal.”
Donated shoes can be dropped off at UMS during school hours. There is also a collection box in the lobby of the district office.
Uintah High School is offering in-person ACT prep classes on Fridays. The scheduled Friday sessions include Reading and English Practice Test (Feb. 11); Strategies for Math and Science (March 4); Math and Science Practice Test (March 11); and Practice Test Reflection (March 18).
If your students can’t attend the Friday sessions, they can come to one of the Saturday sessions on Feb. 12 or March 12, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in the UHS Library Fishbowl. The Saturday ACT prep classes will include a short introduction to test strategies. Students will have the opportunity to take a practice test and get feedback on the results from their practice tests. Snacks will be provided at the Saturday sessions.

Congratulations to the 63 Uintah High students who were inducted into the school’s National Honor Society chapter Monday night! This was the largest group of inductees in the chapter’s recent history. NHS membership is by invitation only. The Uintah High chapter plans and carries out several service projects throughout the year and promotes the Four Pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
Congratulations also go out to the Uintah High Girls Wrestling Team for finishing first overall at the 5A Division A Meet on Thursday at Brighton High! Nineteen Utes earned a spot on the podium in their respective weight classes, clinching their spots in the state tournament later this month at Utah Valley University.
Uintah High is hosting the 5A Division A Boys Wrestling Meet today and tomorrow. Good luck to the UHS wrestlers working to earn a spot at the state tournament! Matches began at 1 p.m. today and are expected to go until 8 p.m. tonight. Wrestling resumes at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, with doors opening for fans one hour prior. Tickets must be purchased online at

Finally, good luck to the Uintah U’ettes at the 5A State Drill Team Finals on Saturday night at UVU! There are 23 drill teams in the 5A classification. Only nine qualify for the finals. The U’ettes performance times are 5:58 p.m. (Military), 6:36 p.m. (Dance), and 8:16 p.m. (Show). The competition is expected to be streamed live on
