This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - Nov. 11, 2022Happy Veterans Day! Schools around the district honored our veterans this week with patriotic displays, programs, and assemblies. As a district, we are grateful to all who have served in our country’s Armed Forces. Their commitment to protecting our nation and freedoms will never be forgotten. Thank you, veterans!

On Wednesday, the Uintah School Board held its regularly scheduled work session and business meeting. Video of both meetings can be found on the district's YouTube channel.

The audio recording of the work session can be found HERE.The audio recording of the business meeting can be found HERE.

During the business meeting, the board celebrated the district’s students of the month for November. The students are Jaxon Hineman (Central Cove Preschool); Christian Woodard (Ashley Elementary); Emilie Ogle (Davis Elementary); Rowan Reay (Discovery Elementary); Araya Ignacio (Eagle View Elementary); Briley McKee (Lapoint Elementary); Liam Day (Maeser Elementary); Angie Preece (Naples Elementary); Stetson Merkley (Uintah Middle School); Yilin Ou (Vernal Middle School); Caleb Hadlock (Uintah High School); and David Montgomery (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online). Congratulations to these students and to all who support them!

The board also celebrated Candace Workman and Gary Galley.

Workman was inducted into the Brunson Utah Wrestling Hall of Fame in October, becoming the first woman to enter the hall. A graduate of Uintah High, Workman broke barriers during her time as a wrestler for the Utes as the first girl to win a region title and the first girl to wrestle in the state finals. She continues to work with youth, serving as an assistant wrestling coach at Uintah Middle School and Uintah High.

Galley, a teacher and coach at Uintah High, was selected in October as the 2022 5A Cross Country Coach of the Year. This is a peer award that is given to a coach who has shown commitment to the sport and the community, and who serves as a role model to student-athletes, coaches and parents.

Congratulations to these two outstanding individuals!
