Celebrations
Congratulations to Uintah High teacher Kami Elison! Last night in Salt Lake City she was honored as a finalist for Utah Teacher of the Year.

The recognition was not the first for Elison this year. In June, she received a Best in State award for her student's performance on the Business Communications 1 exam. It was the second time Elison received the award. Last year, she was also recognized for her students' test scores in Business Management and Business Communications 2.

Congratulations to Naples Elementary School counselor Amy Hammond! She has been chosen as the Counselor of the Month by the Utah State Board of Education School Counseling specialists and the Utah School Counselor Association. Hammond was nominated by Uintah School District Support Services Director Mindy Merrell.

"Amy is the epitome of a great school counselor. She is hard working, caring, cheerful, and optimistic," Merrell said. "She has been instrumental in developing and growing the elementary counseling program in our district."

Congratulations as well to Uintah Middle School teacher Christine Whetton. She has been selected for the November spotlight for Health and Physical Education at the Utah State Board of Education. Whetton was nominated for her energy, innovative thinking, and ability to help students take what they learn in her class into the real world.

The annual Hawk-a-ton was among the activities highlighted in Whetton’s nomination. She started the annual triathlon that now involves about 100 UMS students, including the competitors, the band, and student volunteers. This year’s Hawk-a-thon was held on Thursday. The winners of the race and various special awards will be announced next week.

The Uintah School Board will celebrate Elison, Hammond, and Whetton during their upcoming business meeting.
