This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - April 19, 2024First responders from Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah counties will participate in full-scale emergency drill tomorrow, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The drill will simulate a crash between a school bus and a tractor-trailer truck. It will take place on US-191 north of Vernal near Cart Creek between mile markers 378-381. The district is providing a decommissioned school bus for the drill.

Again, this is a simulated crash. No one will be injured. Emergency managers are asking people to avoid the area during the drill.

VMS Parent Night
Vernal Middle School will host a free presentation about navigating social media and cellphone use by teens. The presentation is geared toward parents, students ages 13 and up, and interested community members. It will be held on Monday, April 22, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the VMS auditorium.

Celebrations
Students in art specialist Madison Young's art guild at Eagle View Elementary were given the opportunity recently to paint a large mural for the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum in Salt Lake City. Twenty-six students helped with the project. Young said her students are determined, hardworking kids. "I believe they will all continue to grow into amazing artists," she said.

The Uintah High Choir program attended their Region Large Group Choir Festival on Wednesday. The three advanced choirs competed and did great. Uintah's men's choir, Virsonum, received two Superior minus ratings and one Excellent plus rating. Uintah's women's choir, Lumionsa, received all Superior ratings and qualified for the State Large Group Choir Festival. Polyphony received all Superior minus ratings. Congratulations to Luminosa for their state qualification and to all the choirs for a fantastic showing at Region.

The Uintah High Orchestra competed at Region on Thursday. The same orchestra qualified for State Solo & Ensemble in February but just fell short of reaching the State Orchestra Festival yesterday. The orchestra received all Excellent ratings and many compliments from other directors and the audience.

UHS Athletics
The Uintah High Boys Tennis Team is hosting the Uintah Invitational today and tomorrow at the UHS Tennis Courts. The Utes beat the Union Cougars this morning 4-1. Today they are scheduled to play Morgan High at 1 p.m., Delta High at 4 p.m. and Carbon High at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Utes are scheduled to play South Sevier High at 11 a.m. and San Juan High at 3 p.m.

The Uintah High Track and Field Team is in Price today, competing at the Eastern Utah Championships at Carbon High School.

The Uintah High Boys Soccer Team is on the road today at Payson High School for a Region game. The Uintah High Baseball Team is also playing a region doubleheader at Payson High today. Baseball will host Salem Hills High tomorrow. First pitch for tomorrow’s varsity game is scheduled for 1 p.m., with the JV game to follow.

The Uintah High Softball Team will also be in action tomorrow. They host Granstville High for a non-region game. First pitch for varsity is set for 10 a.m.
