The Uintah School Board held its regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday at the district office in Naples. Video of both meetings can be found at

During the business meeting, the board celebrated:
1. Uintah High student Lois Lyman, who earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. More than a million high school students take the ACT test each year. Unsurprisingly, a 36 is the rarest score of all. It’s estimated that only 0.25% of all test takers earn a perfect score. Those who achieve this goal have a significant advantage in the college application and admissions process.
2. The Uintah High Student Council, whose members were recognized by the National Association of Student Councils with the National Gold Council of Excellence award. A student council must meet a variety of criteria to earn the National Gold Council of Excellence Award. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community.
The members of the 2023-2024 UHS Student Council are: President Ryan Mansfield, Vice President Kate Slaugh, Secretary McKenna Tesar, School Publicity Officer Evan Lewis, Liaison Officer Kate Larson, Historian/Senate Leader Ethan Pierce, Activities Officer Caleb Hadlock, School Spirit Animal Wilson Liesik, Senior Class President McKenzie “Mac” White, Senior Class Vice President Yordi Woodford, Junior Class President Emily Bake, Junior Class Vice President James Kinsey, Sophomore Class President Rickell Zufelt, Sophomore Class Vice President Kade Richens, and Freshmen Class representatives Kameron Crane, Thomas “T” Schlosser III, Parker Strasburg and Emmalee Woods. UHS teacher Blaire Martindale serves as the council’s advisor.
3. The Uintah High Weightlifting Club, which earned both the boys and girls state powerlifting titles earlier this month. It is the third state title for the girls and the second for the boys. Hadley Cook was chosen as the competition's Outstanding Female Lifter. In addition to Hadley, the other individual state champions in the girls powerlifting competition were Jakailei Lujan, Rylee Crane, and Brynlee Hansen. The individual state champions in the boys powerlifting competition were Jose Munguia, Kingston Bullock, Dace O’Bagy, Bodey Simmons, and Bridger Wallace. Nolan Nyberg earned the Utes’ first state title in the Olympic weightlifting competition.
4. Uintah High FCCLA member Addi Foley, who won the Teach or Train competiton at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in March. The win qualified Addi to compete at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Seattle this summer.
5. Uintah High FFA Nursery/Landscape Team members Isabel Owens, Lillian Strasburg, Sidney Anderson, and Spencer Foley, who placed first in the state and will compete at the FFA National Convention in Indiana in November. In the Nursery/Landscape event, competitors compete in practicums propagating and potting plants, analyze landscape plans, take a written test, complete a problem-solving exam, and identify more than 120 landscape plants and plant disorders.
6. The Uintah High Sterling Scholars who placed at the Northeast Region Sterling Competition. The board honored region Sterling Scholar winner Cole Manwaring (Social Science), runner-up Kate Larson (World Languages), Emberly Kinsey (Visual Arts), Kaylee Russell (Dance), and Annabelle Johnson (Instrumental Music).
7. And the district’s students of the month. The district students of the month for May 2024 are Dixie Walker (Central Cove Preschool); Justin Fuell (Ashley Elementary); Raina Rowley (Davis Elementary); Rebekah Wilson (Discovery Elementary); Kaleph Zamudio Rojas (Eagle View Elementary); Hadleigh Freston (Lapoint Elementary); Cole Smith (Maeser Elementary); Peyton Collett (Naples Elementary); Cooper D Goodrich (Uintah Middle School); Aubrey Hawk (Vernal Middle School); Tobias Faucher (Uintah High School); and Junior Babcock (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online. Congratulations to these outstanding students and to everyone who supports them.
Closing Night for The Play That Goes Wrong
Tickets are still available for tonight’s final performance of Uintah High Theatre’s production of The Play That Goes Wrong. The 2012 play won Best New Comedy at the 2015 Laurence Olivier Awards. UHS Choir Performances

Uintah High’s choirs will perform for the final time this school year on Wednesday in the UHS auditorium. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and will feature performances by Polyphony, Luminosa, Virsonum and SoVoce. The concert will be streamed live on the Uintah High Choir Facebook page.
UHS May Art Show
The Uintah High May Art Show will be Tuesday and Wednesday in the Commons at the high school. Tuesday’s show will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday’s show will be from 3-5 p.m. This will be the first juried show displaying artwork created by UHS visual art students during the school year. It’s an opportunity for parents, students and the public to celebrate amazing art and vote for the People’s Choice Award.
Celebrations
Congratulations to the Uintah High Girls Golf Team! They won the 2024 Region 8 Championship on April 30. Five Utes finished in the Top 10 individually in region. Jessy Merrell finished 2nd, Mac White finished 3rd, Leaira Wilson finished 4th, Addy Yack finished 6th, and Sydney Swink finished 9th. Uintah finished 9th out of 26 teams at the Utah 4A State Tournament this week at Talon’s Cove Golf Club.
Congratulations as well to Uintah High’s Lily Carlson! Lily won a Utah High School Musical Theatre Award last Saturday for Best Student Scenic Design for her work on Uintah High Theatre’s production of Something Rotten. There were 55 high school musicals adjudicated in the state this year.
UHS Athletics
The Uintah High Boys Soccer Team will host the Park City Miners today at 4 p.m. at Coach Belcher Stadium in the first round of the 4A State Playoffs. The game will be streamed live on the Uintah High Athletics YouTube channel.
Uintah High Tennis players Stockton Ross (1st singles), Daron Ross (2nd singles), and Everett Morton (3rd singles) all qualified for Day 2 of the 4A State Tennis Tournament today at Liberty Park.
