The Uintah School Board will hold a public hearing on a proposed budget for fiscal year 2025 and proposed amendments to the fiscal year 2024 budget on May 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the district office in Naples. The public is invited to attend and will have the opportunity to comment on the FY25 proposed budget and the proposed amendments to the FY24 budget.
The proposed budget for FY25 and the proposed amended budget for FY24 will be available to the public during upon request at the Business Administrator’s office, where they will be on file for public inspection by May 19. The Business Administrator’s office is located in the district office at 826 S. 1500 East in Naples.
The proposed budget for FY25 and the proposed amended budget for FY24 will also be available for public access on the district’s website at
www.uintah.net/districtoffice/budgets no later than May 19.

Change to 1st Day of School
During its business meeting on May 8, the Uintah School Board approved an update to the 2024-2025 academic calendar that changed the first day of school for most students.
Students in grades K-12 will begin classes for the 2024-2025 school year on Tuesday, Aug. 20. That is one day earlier than the previous version of the academic calendar. Students attending Central Cove Preschool will begin classes for the 2024-2025 school year on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
The district apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the schedule change for K-12 students. It was necessary to accommodate additional teacher prep days and move the last day of school to Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Graduation for Uintah High School's Class of 2025 will take place on Friday, May 23, 2025.

UHS Band & Orchestra Concerts
The Uintah Band, Orchestra and Jazz Band will perform their final concerts of the year on Tuesday. The band and orchestra concert will start at 6:30 p.m. Pandemonium – the UHS Jazz Band – will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Admission is FREE. The concerts will be streamed live on the Uintah Bands Facebook page.
Celebrations
Congratulations to the 11 elementary educators in the district who earned the state’s Effective Teachers in High Poverty Schools (ETHPS) incentive! LaRissa Goodrich, Robert Judd, Susan Moore, and Aneka Tanner at Naples Elementary; Tina Daniels and Rakeyl Gilley at Eagle View Elementary; and Heidi Hunt, Bernadette Ferriera, Judy Foley, Meghan Lemon, and Reen Slagowski at Ashley Elementary all qualified for the $7,000 incentive based on the criteria set forth by the state of Utah, which included helping their students meet specific benchmarks for academic growth or progress.

Reagan Angus, who was selected as Uintah High School’s Outstanding Senior for the Class of 2024. Reagan is the oldest child of Justin and Christy Angus. She is an outstanding student and is tireless in her efforts to reach her goals.
Reagan plans to attend Utah State University Uintah Basin this fall to complete her undergraduate work. She will then pursue a degree in equine veterinary medicine at USU in Logan. Eventually, she would like to return to the Uintah Basin to work as a veterinarian.
To reach this goal, Reagan has been enrolled at USU as a concurrent enrollment high school student and has also been taking night classes with USU. When she graduates in May, she will have 46 credits. Reagan has maintained a 4.0 GPA at both USU and Uintah High School.
Reagan is an active member of Uintah High school's FFA chapter, National Honor Society, and has competed in varsity cross country for three years. She won Grand Champion Senior Showman for both goats and sheep in 4-H. She was on a 4-H judging team that won state and nationals and was part of a Uintah FFA judging team that won state and went to nationals.
She is a passionate advocate for FFA and 4-H. She promotes these programs by offering clinics on livestock judging and showmanship for children. Excellent work, Reagan!

Dr. Ronee K Wopsock Pawwinnee, who was honored earlier this week as the 2024 Uintah High School Distinguished Alumni! Wopsock Pawwinnee is a member of the Ute Indian Tribe from the Uncompahgre Band. She is the director of the tribe’s Education Department and superintendent of Uintah River High School.
Wopsock Pawwinnee graduated from Uintah High in 1997, earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and human services from Fort Lewis College, a master’s of jurisprudence in Indian law from the University of Tulsa, and a doctorate in education leadership through the University of Washington and Muckleshoot Tribal College cohort program.
In addition to her roles in education, Wopsock Pawwinnee has worked in tribal social services, served as an appellate court judge for the Ute Indian Tribal Court, and served as a commissioner for the Ute Tribe Employment Rights Office.
Graduation Information
Ashley Valley Education Center will hold its commencement exercises on Thursday, May 23, at 5:30 p.m. in the AVEC parking lot. No tickets are required.
Uintah High School will hold its commencement exercises on Friday, May 24, at 5:30 p.m. at Coach Belcher Stadium. No tickets are required. Seats cannot be saved until after the graduating class takes the Block U photo at the stadium.
The Block U photo is scheduled for Friday, May 24, at 7 a.m. Once students have been released from the photo, the bleachers will be open. Please use string, yarn, or rope to keep blankets in place. Tape damages the bleachers and is difficult to remove. Any items used to save seats before the Block U photo is finished will be removed and placed by the concessions stand.

UHS Athletics
Good luck to the members of the Uintah High Track and Field competing in the 4A State Track Meet at BYU today and tomorrow.
Two school records have already fallen today. David Anderson set a new school record in the 3200m with a time of 9:42.56. Aliysa Hunting set a new school record in the 400m with a time of 59.31.
Lindsey Stewart was the first Uintah High athlete to podium at this year’s state meet, finishing 6th in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet 9.5 inches.
